William Fitzsimmons put out an album this past week, Ready The Astronaut, and it’s one of my favourite albums so far this year. Everything note he sings, you feel the emotion.
What I love about music is finding myself in the lyrics. Whilst I don’t know the story behind his song “Ready The Astronaut”, I can relate. And I think that’s a true testament to a songwriter, the ability to write their own truth, but have listeners connect to it on their own level.
For me it’s a story of self doubt. Having success, but still having the fear of failing, “Still I’m afraid to fall.” Having grown so much as a person, that you feel light years away from the kid you were, “Looking back on Earth.” Despite carrying past demons, you now have much more confidence and strength, knowing that you’ll never return to that former self, “I’m never coming home.” Well that’s my take away.
Please do yourself a favour and listen to the album in it’s entirety. It’s a stunning body of work. You can find it here on Spotify.
