The track, “(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher and Higher” was first made famous by Jackie Wilson in 1967. Since then countless covers have been performed. It’s a song that I remember from my childhood. I’m not sure where or when I first heard it. But it’s one of those songs that has stuck with me forever. It’s such a strong and powerful message. Something that I think that is needed across the World right now. Let’s lift each other up with love!
UK singer, Sonny, slows down the tempo, but evokes just as much emotion as the original. Transitioning from a low raspy growl, to hitting high notes with ease. He does a fantastic job of making the song his own, yet still staying true to the Wilson’s version.
I discovered Sonny’s cover via one of the playlists that Spotify playlist, “Discover Weekly”. A playlist of songs that Spotify curates for you, based on your listening preferences. If you’re not exploring this playlist weekly, you really should! It’s not 100% accurate, but I have to admit, I’m surprised with the amount of new artists and tracks I’ve unearthed from this playlist.
